How to Prepare for Your Notarization!

Updated: May 22, 2021

Need a document notarized? Here's what you need to know.

Who's it for?

International: If it's international, you'll need either an Apostille or Authentication. This is a bit more complicated and you may need more assistance.

Domestic: If the document is for use in the US, that's perfect!

Have your ID ready!

Actual ID: Make sure you actually have your physical ID, we can't look at photocopies or a picture. We need to be able to hold the ID and examine it.

Full Legal Name: You also need to have your name that is on the document match your ID, so if you changed your name or it's missing a middle name, you may need to bring a supporting document.

Signature on ID: We do actually compare the signature that's on your ID to your actual signature. So it is helpful if your signatures match.

We will accept the following form of ID.

  • State ID

  • Driver's License

  • Passport

  • NYC ID

  • Visa or Green Card

Additional forms to support the document if your name is different:

  • Lease

  • Bank Statements

  • Insurance Cards

  • 2 Credible Witnesses

  • Work ID

  • Credit Card

Notarial Certificate

We need something to notarize! We can't just notarize a blank page by sticking our stamp on it. So you should make sure that there's correct wording on the document. Don't worry if there's not enough room, correct wording or anything at all; we can attach a document. Just let us know which form!

Jurat / Oath or an Acknowledgment

We usually keep a set of forms with us for purchase if you need to pick one out.

Also, NYS notaries cannot certify any documents such as a passport or birth certificate; so if you have questions; give us a call!

Make Sure all Forms are Filled Out and it's the Whole Document!

We can't notarize page 5 of a 10-page document. So you should have the whole document printed with you. (If you need us to print the document just let us know ahead of the appointment.)

Also, don't sign blank forms. We will ask you to complete the form before signing.

And that's it! We will document the notarization in our journal and you'll have your document. The whole appointment will take about 15 minutes for one document.
